The application completion window
Once you start your application there is a limited time to finish it. Here is how to protect that.
When you start an application in the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission's portal, you do not have unlimited time to finish it. The Commission sets a window for completion, and if it closes before you submit, you may have to start again.
Why this catches people out
The application asks for a lot: your entity details, key personnel, registration groups, the supports you deliver, your outlets, and a self-assessment against the practice standards that apply to you. Providers often start the application to "have a look", then discover that the self-assessment needs documents they have not written yet.
How to protect yourself
- Prepare before you start. Have your policies, registers, insurance and key personnel details ready. Draft your self-assessment answers first.
- Note the date you started and the due date the portal shows you. Record both here so we can remind you as the date approaches.
- Do the self-assessment in one focused block rather than in scraps of time.
- Do not start the application to explore. Read the Commission's guidance on what is required instead.
What we do with your dates
When you tell us the date you started your application and the date shown in the portal, we track it and remind you well before it closes. We show the window as a countdown on your dashboard so it does not creep up on you.
If the window closes
Contact the Commission. Depending on the circumstances you may be able to continue or to reapply. Do not assume the work is wasted — your policies, registers and evidence remain useful either way.
Because timeframes can change, always treat the date shown in your own application as the authoritative one, and check the Commission's current guidance rather than relying on a number you read somewhere else.
